I was brought up in Dundalk on the border with Northern Ireland during the troubles. My work has often focused on conflicts from Iraq war, Bosnia and the Troubles. I studied art at DIT, which was a small college that was passionate about expressionism and the transforming possibility of art.
I worked in Dublin for many years before moving to Rome 1998 after seeing Caravaggios St Matthew series in San Liugi dei Francesi. Since then I have spent a few years working in New York, most recently Harlem and then back here to Rome in 2007. I love the dedication to great art that there is in Rome and the striving for real quality in every aspect of life and work.
My work is often about human conflict and a search for redemption. I am fascinated by what it is to be human at this point in history and how we as people cope with the major questions of life without the security of structured belief systems that preceding generations have always had. We are truly the first lost generation, surrounded by collapsing certainties and I like many artists attest to this process.
